It seems as though I have been waiting forever for this day! One of our little free loaders rewarded us with a small brown egg this morning.I feel so proud...

Instead, we live in the city on a 3/4 acre lot. It isn't easy being an urban farmsteader when the city offers so many opportunities to be lazy. Fast food, convenience stores and grocery stores abound. That's okay...We're up for the challenge!

Congrats on the egg. It is exciting. My mom was thrilled a week and a half ago when hers began to lay. She has gotten 2 eggs a day now for about 7-8 days.
Thanks, Becca! Even though only one bird laid the egg, the others seemed rather proud and acted more mature. They didn't even attempt to untie my shoelaces like they usually do!
WHAT a great feeling! Congratulations. Our Littles recently started laying, which is great because the Bigs are molting and not laying. It's a wonderful feeling. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?
June, we are so impressed with our pair of eggs (got a 2nd one yesterday!)that we haven't eaten them yet. We just have them in a basket on the dining room table where we admire them from time to time.
